Seniors Stableford No. 5

(33 players, one runaway winner, and a countback that worked overtime.)

A lively field of 33 Seniors took to the course for Stableford No. 5, armed with optimism, questionable club selections, and the usual belief that “today might be the day.” For a few, it actually was.

With prize money divided pro‑rata and the countback calculator warmed up and ready, both divisions produced tight finishes and some very tidy scoring.

🏆 Division 1 – Dale Delivers the Goods

Vincent Dale claimed top spot with an excellent 37 points, built on 8 pars and a level of consistency that made the rest of the division look nervously at their own cards. A strong, confident performance — and fully deserving of the win.

Just behind him, Mike Gilbert posted 35 points, a solid round that kept him in contention throughout but ultimately left him two points short of Dale’s winning total.

Third place went to Kelvin Stephens, who finished on 34 points, winning the countback on the back 6. Marcus Beale also carded 34, but lost out on the same back‑6 countback to take fourth.

Division 1 Prizes:

  • 1st Vincent Dale – 37 £18

  • 2nd Mike Gilbert – 35 £16

  • 3rd Kelvin Stephens – 34 £14 (B6 12)

  • 4th Marcus Beale – 34 £10 (B6 10)

🏆 Division 2 – Douglas Edges a Tight Finish

Division 2 produced a close and entertaining contest, with the top three separated by just a single point.

Paul Douglas took the honours with 34 points, supported by 3 pars and a steady round that kept him just ahead of the chasing pack.

Terry Randle finished one point behind on 33, winning the countback for second place thanks to a stronger back nine.

Also on 33 points, Wayne Nixon claimed third place, losing out to Randle on the back‑nine comparison but still producing a tidy round.

Fourth place went to Adrian Firth with 32 points, rounding out the prize list.

Division 2 Prizes:

  • 1st Paul Douglas – 34 £18

  • 2nd Terry Randle – 33 £16 (B9 18)

  • 3rd Wayne Nixon – 33 £14 (B9 16)

  • 4th Adrian Firth – £10

💷 Prize Fund Summary

  • 33 players£115.50  collected

  • £116 paid out

  • Loss: 50p (An amount small enough that the Treasurer has decided not to panic.)

A note from the organiser: 4th prize is £10 each, not £12, due to the prize fund limit.

📌 Closing Notes

Stableford No. 5 delivered strong scoring, tight finishes, and only a modest amount of muttering on the greens. Congratulations to all prize winners, and commiserations to those whose rounds contained “character‑building” holes.

The Seniors march on to the next fixture with optimism, determination, and at least one player insisting they’ve “finally sorted their putting.”

The Competition Manager for this fixture was Alasdair Carruthers
