News article for the General Section
The compulsory use of fairway mats through the general area (excludes hazards!) came in to play from 27th November 2024 and the 'Mats Everwhere' Local Rule applies (replacing the 'Fairway Mats' Local rule which is withdrawn - see PDF documents under the Club Info menu or the noticeboard outside the snooker room for details). The use of mats has proved to be extremely successful in protecting the course over the winter period when divots don’t recover naturally.
Note that mats are not permitted when using a putter (preferred lies still apply on closely mown areas) and that the use of mats is not compulsory when using a driver from a tee peg.
Note that scores are not acceptable for handicap purposes whilst mats are in use in the rough. Accordingly no General Play scores can be submitted until further notice.
